Show a little love for Shea

osh41

I know that Shea Stadium will not be missed for many reasons. Asthetics, poor sightlines, long bathroom lines etc. but it was the teams home for 45 seasons and is a huge part of this franchises history. Many a Met fan will have great memories of the place and no matter the look of it will be looked back on fondly.

So when osh41 took Mrs. Osh41 and kiddies to Shea for Sunday's ugly loss to the Astros' I was very dismayed to see the Shea Stadium plaque near Gate E about 80% torn off the wall.

Isn't this something that will be taken and put in the new park? I would like to be able to see that plaque behind glass in Citi Field and shown a little respect. There is a plaque in Brooklyn for Ebbets Field, ones in Manhattan for the Polo Grounds and Hilltop Park and I am sure that when the Stadium in the Bronx is razed there will be appropriate markings made showing that 'Yankee Stadium was here'.

So please Fred and Jeff and whoever else is in charge - please take the sign down now and put it away for safekeeping before some oaf runs off with it one night and puts it in their basement for no one to see ever again. Bill Shea did some work to merit a stadium being named for him and the least the Mets can do is make sure than an artifact reflecting that work is available for the public to see in the Mets new ballpark.
Do the right thing here please.

Great article Osh. I bet there will be all sorts of Ebbetts Field crap at N'Ebbetts Field, the least they could do is grab the plaque. Like you said, some idiot will steal it. Didn't it take the Didgers like 50 years to find their World Series banner?
