New York Mets Uniform Changes Coming?

On twitter, Burt Hubbuch of the NY Post http://twitter.com/NYPost_Mets says:


The Mets are considering dropping the pinstripes from their uniforms next season. Another bad PR move.


The Mets are also considering going from a white home uniform and changing to cream-colored, a la San Francisco Giants.

Does that mean never pinstripes? It's not like they wear them often.

So in the comments I was asked:

If the Mets were to completely drop the black — jerseys, socks, lettering, caps, belts, etc., — and promised blue caps, socks, belts, always, home and road ... but it meant the elimination of the pinstripes, would Mets Police accept this kind of compromise?


Answer: Yes. This is one of the terms of peace I offer for what I call "The Treaty of Flushing." Eliminate the black and wear the pinless home uniform with the blue hats and I will cease complaining about what they wear (except on Los Mets night).

As much as I'd prefer pinstripes, I'd take the elimination of black altogether in exchange for all-blue caps, socks, etc.

I'm also curious what this would mean for the road uniforms? Would they, too, be cream colored on the road, like the Padres wear on the road? Would they wear a blue alternate?

This is going to be very interesting. I wish we knew more. But clearly, if the Mets are going to eliminate pinstripes from their uniforms completely, that survey earlier this season got into the wrong hands.

Thanks, Shannon. As much as I'd hate to see pinstripes go, I'd take the compromise, too. What's the real difference, anyway, considering they've only worn them, what eight times this season — including two Los Mets nights?

Truth be told, I'm more excited about the prospect of seeing the blues on the road — something we've seen just once in the last 12 seasons (makeup game v. Yanks last season).

Pinstripes,with blue caps and blue stirups. Everyday except Sunday, then use the cream colored home jerseys, and keep the big NY on the chest, blue stirrups and caps. (phils do creame unis on sundays. Road greys, blue caps. Keep it traduitional, keep it simple, and oh, yeah: NO BLACK ANYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here's what Omar's favorite writer has to say about the Metsies uni news:
The Mets plan to go retro with their pinstriped home uniforms next season. Those uniforms will change to off-white, as they were in the 1960s, from their current bright white. That will also serve to differentiate the pinstriped uniforms from the solid home uniforms, which will remain the brighter white.
