The Mets Police

I liked what I saw tonight. Pedro into the 8th inning (take that Mets Police), got some big outs from the new guy in the pen. Everyone doing their job, everyone contributing. Lots of emotion out of that dugout after Wright pulls a Pete Rose bellyflop into the plate. They look like they are having fun and enjoying each others company. Jerry is a smooth dude, can't argue with the job he has done so far. It's a different team from earlier.

Wiining can breed winning, confidence, blah, blah, blah.

It's the pitching stupid. They are getting solid stuff out of the starters every night. I thought if they could get 2-3 more outs per game from the starters they could save a few outs from the erratic pen. Keep it up fellas.

Oswalt/Santana tomorrow night. That's a game where if you didn't live far from Shea and have a wife and kids you'd call a buddy and say 'lets go out to Shea tonight and get some seats upstairs. I'll buy the first one.'

The dreaded 'swoosh' Mets home jersey. After 1992 the Mets announced they were overhauling their home and road jerseys. No more 'racing stripe' - back to a more traditional look. Mets Police and I were very excited. A return to 1969 like threads??? NO. Instead they get rid of the racing stripe, GOOD, they bring back the logo patch on the left sleeve - GOOD, they put 'Mets' in the front with this SWOOSH that resembes nothing they have ever had on a jersey, seat cushion, give away hat etc. NOT GOOD. WTF is what Mets Police and I said.

It didn't help that the '93 team went 59-103 wearing them and were HATED by the home crowd (roster includes - Vince Coleman, Eddie Murray, Bonilla and Saberhagen). After a second season in 1994 they got rid of the design. Now it's just an ebay curiosity and rarely ever seen at Shea - and trust me if I see it I will report it here. Anyway looking back - it isn't black so if it stays cheap - I may make a run at it.
