Carlos Beltran Visits Veterans

Unfortunately so much in Metsland is negative that I'm always happy when i can share something positive.

Carlos Beltran stepped into the day room of the mental health ward of the VA hospital on 23rd St. in Manhattan where brave men, many damaged by foreign wars and the insufferable indifference back home, sat on Veterans Day trying to knit back the torn fabric of their lives.

Don't Vote For Carlos Beltran In All Star Game

From Mets.com

A DL stint hasn't hurt Carlos Beltran's vote total, as he is third among NL outfielders just ahead of Alfonso Soriano. Fans have two days left to vote until 11:59 p.m. ET on Thursday. Vote >

I propose you don't vote for Beltran.   That way he won't be tempted to even fly there and wave.   He isn't going to play (unless he's insane).   Who cares if he is on the team or not.  We know he was having a good season.  It's an ego thing to have a few Mets stand there and wave, who cares.   You'll have Wright and K-Rod and maybe Santana (I haven't analyzed that).

I also got an email from The Flushing Flash this morning - the left sidebar has a one-stop-shopping "vote for the Mets" thing, I can just click and vote.  They want us to vote Dan Murphy in as a starting outfielder.  Really?   REALLY?  I wish I could screen-cap for you it but I can't right now.

Can someone write a bot and give Dan Murphy 10 million votes please?  I'd love to see him start in LF for the All Star Game.

Come on Mets, I know we are supposed to support our guys, but let's also act like adults.  Clearly Dan Murphy should not be a starter in the outfield.   Clearly Delgado isn't going to be at first.   Clearly none of us want Reyes playing in the game.   Just make a new button and encourage people to vote for Wright.

Report: New York Mets Beltran to DL

The Daily News is reporting Carlos Beltran is heading to the DL.

Well, that's it.   The injury bug doesn't want the Mets to win.

I think they should stand pat, hope that 85 wins gets into the playoffs (the Phillies seem unable to put us away), but it's not worth mortgaging the future trying to patch things together, just to lose in the first round.

Pittsburgh Pirates Blogger Responds To Carlos Beltran

Fun stuff from Rum Bunter,

Team leaders don’t play with bellyaches, do they?   Team leaders that cash monster paychecks like yours surely aren’t expected to suck it up on road trips are they?  Team leaders simply write checks with their mouth and then expect their teammates to cash those checks for them right?
So go ahead and go back to motivating your Mets teammates today.  You have some work to do alongside Sheffield and Delgado and Perez.  ReyesChurchPora,MartinezMaine and Pagan all seem to be bellyached this year.  Hell, you have Emil Brown on the roster to motivate now.  We feel for you Mr. Beltran.  We really do.   Is Perez making more than you are?  You are really the better player.  You know that though…

Long rant here.

I do want to know more about "Pora" - I guess he's playing short stop tonight.  Wouldn't shock me.  I'm more commenting on the state of Omar Minaya's minor league depth than a type from some poor Pirates fan who hasn't seen a winning team since Bonds was skinny.

Uniform Numbers - Real and Rented Part 3

Continuing our series of what players are (or should be) associated with each number. (Inspired by the Shea game countdown on the outfield fence). So far we've covered numbers 1 through 10. With thanks again to Mets By The Numbers, here now are 11 through 15:
11
Rightful Owner(s): Wayne Garret & Tim Tuefel
Rent-A-Met: None

Comment: Yes Tuefel was a Twin first, but he became a Met and has managed and coached in the system for several years now.

12
Rightful Owner(s): John Stearns & Ron Darling
Rent-A-Met: Willie Randolph

Comment: Randolph was and always will be a Yankee. Stearns was robbed of an opportunity to manage this team.

13
Rightful Owner(s): Edgardo Alfonzo
Rent-A-Met: Billy Wagner

Comment: Fonzie was perhaps the one true Met on the 1999-2000 playoff teams.

14
Rightful Owner(s): Gil Hodges
Rent-A-Met: None

Comment: Gil was a Dodger first, but will always be remembered as a Met as well. You know the Mets will trot out his widow Joan to take down the Game #14 sign.

15
Rightful Owner(s): Jerry Grote
Rent-A-Met: Carlos Beltran

Comment: When he's not rustling cattle, Grote was a helluva defensive catcher. Beltran on the other hand has many years to go before being considered a Met.
