Interleague Missed Opportunity

With all the hype this year about the final season at Yankee Stadium, MLB has been going out of their way to honor the House That Ruth Built, yet I think they missed the boat on what could have been something really fun during interleague play.

The Red Sox have always been the Yankees great rivalry in the AL, but who has been there foe more often than not in the NL? Of course I'm referring to the Brooklyn/Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Dodgers have played more games in Yankee Stadium than any other NL team (35, all but 3 in the World Series). The rivalry between these teams in post season is legendary and MLB should have honored that.

Plus, you would have also had the added drama of Joe Torre returning to Yankee Stadium - talk about an instant ratings winner.

What was MLB thinking about when they scheduled the Padres and not the Dodgers?

For the record, the Mets have played 32 games at Yankee Stadium.

Interleague Play

This weekend you get the "good" series - Subway, Battle of Ohio, LA vs LA of Anaheim. Also some legenday matchups like Rays-Cards, Tigers-Diamondacks, and Padres-Mariners.

Then for some reason it's back to normal on Monday, but who isn't psyched about the Texas Rangers and um, that popular guy they have, the famous one that we um......anyway the Texas Rangers come to town on June 13. Then we all get to stay up late so the Mets can fly to Los Angeles of Anaheim.

I hate wild cards, I hate interleague. Surprisingly I've come to like the DH but not when it's scheduled to be Marlon Anderson.

Oh Joy, Another Special One Of A Kind Subway Series

Gather around children and I will tell you about a time when the World Series was extra special, because it was the only time that teams from each league could ever play each other. Sometimes it was magical when the two teams were from the same city. This event - called a Subway Series - could sometimes be a once in a lifetime experience. Imagine that - a once in a lifetime experience!

But then the Lords of Baseball led by their Owner-Commisioner realized that they weren't making quite enough money on regular season games. Sure they could raise ticket prices (and they did) but what else could they do. Well, considering that tradition meant nothing to them they decided to throw away the specialness of the World Series. Never again would a Subway Series be extra special - now we woudl be lucky enought to have it TWICE each year. And of course the owners realize how lucky we are by charging more for these tickets than other games.

But wait, there's more. In addition to not one, but two Subway Series ach year, we the fans also get exciting games like Kansas City at Florida, or Oakland at Atlanta. You know the tickets are surely flying for those games.
