Great pictures of old Yankee Stadium

Thanks to ABS for sending me this link to old photos of NYC in the 1970s.

This one is Old Yankee Stadium pre-renovation.  The new fake place does look similar, although the uppers look much closer to me in this shot.

There's more shots of Yankee in there, plus a few of Shea.  Good stuff.

Pictures From Yankee Stadium At Game 1 Of The World Series (Part 2)

One of the nice things about my trip to Fake New Yankee Stadium is that my seat had a TV above me...and I was able to capture a picture of Scoreboard Tara.  Tara does some pre-game stuff and well I'm not sure exactly how she got the gig.

Mrs. Mets Police's pink camera doesn't zoom too well...somewhere in there are Yogi and Michelle Obama.  The Yankees are the best at ceremonies.  Remember the 2008 Shea Opener's high school band?

This one is a little sharper.   Nice seats, right?

This is outside on 161st at the unimpressive Babe Ruth plaza.   The Babe deserves better.

Pictures From Yankee Stadium At Game 1 Of The World Series (Part 1)

I went to Game 1 of the World Series...got super-lucky on Ticketmaster and got in for face value!

My seat was nearby this Sushi stand.   Really?

Instead I went over here...but blew this off and went to Nathans.  I'd like to thank the mayor for posting calorie counts....I was going to get an order of fries until I saw the 1200+ calories count..which by the way is like getting 6 hot dogs.

I got a beer (small $6) and a dog and still got darn close to $10.  Sheesh.

That's Mrs. Mets Police's pink camera in case you are wondering.

And here's the view from my seat (behind the handicapped area, not in it - we'll get into that tomorrow).

Yankee Stadium (Real) Deomolition Pictures

Poor real Yankee Stadium.  I feel bad for the place.

Game 1 of the World Series and they have the old place draped in black.  Hidden.  If there's another Yankee home game look at how Fox shoots it from the blimp - it's as it if were never there.

I enjoy this more than I should.  Look where the ownership is registered.

Why Yankee Stadium Um Isn't so Good (Deadspin)

Behold....the greatest article of all-time.

Deadspin's Why Your Stadium Sucks:  New Yankee Stadium

They even called it "Fake Yankee Stadium" (I have heard that somewhere) and everyone agrees the upper deck is awful.

New York Yankees Set Another World Series Record....

...this one for "Worst Musical Performance At A World Series Game."

Not a fan of Mr. Z's audio creations.

I'm still laughing at the suggestion that the Yankees have hired Jay-Z and Alicia to perform Jeter's walkup song live at every game in 2010 and 2011.  They will have a permanent stage in play in center field, like the old monuments.  Unconfirmed.

Speaking of center field, how about moving Fake Monument Park.  You can't see it now.  Flip it with the bullpens.

Mr. Sunshine covered the game for me last night - and enjoyed the Official Popcorn on the New York Yankees.

Jimmy Rollins Discovers The Truth About Fake New Yankee Stadium

Rollins Rips Yankee Stadium Atmosphere

Mr. Rollins is wise.

Before Game 2, Rollins said of the new stadium: "They had a legacy over there from the hallways, the monuments, everything. Here it's brand new. It's a different ballpark. It's prettier, big ol' jumbo screens everywhere. I would have to say it's a lot different from what I would have expected it to have been."

Philly Writers Discover The Truth About Fake New Yankee Stadium

Remember when we ripped Fake New Yankee Stadium's Auxiliary Press Box?

 Looks like
a) we were right
b) our picture is catching on.

I was thrilled to see the picture repurposed here...and read the FanFeedr blog post and the original article which adds:

After rappelling up there, it was quickly apparent that more clothing, binoculars and oxygen would be required. The freezing wind howled like a New York cabbie. The puddles of water that two days of rain had left on our chairs and tables were icing over.

Old Yankee Stadium

Some wisdom from Big League Stew!

When looking at the old place, it's hard to refrain from yelling out "Hey wait! This is still a perfectly good ballpark! Stop!" It's hard to resist the urge to hatch a plan to tear down that exoskeleton of destruction, truck in enough folding chairs to seat a small city and hold Game 1 there tonight. How many folks not named Steinbrenner would complain? How many of tonight's ticket holders would actually prefer it that way?

Really good piece about how the players don't care.

WCBS NEWSRADIO 880 - Probe Scrutinizes Concrete at Yankee Stadium

According to WCBS NEWSRADIO 880 - Probe Scrutinizes Concrete at Yankee Stadium there may be some issues with the concrete at New Yankee Stadium.    A spokesman say it's just cosmetic.   A billion dollar stadium with cracks this soon?

This is a picture of some of the beautiful Yankee concrete I took earlier this season.   What a majestic facility.

Save (Real) Yankee Stadium's Gate 2

I fully support the plan to save Gate 2.

Read this:

Published: October 22, 2009
Some fans want to retain old Yankee Stadium’s Gate 2 as part of Heritage Field on the site.

“One of the most common comments we get when we talk to people about it is: who would be against this?” said Costello, an insurance company safety consultant and aYankees fan despite his family’s roots in Brooklyn.

But the city is not seriously considering the proposal, which would involve restoring the Yankee Stadium name and two carved eagle medallions to the gate, to make it look as it did in 1928, and building a new side wall.

The article also mentions that there's no statue of Babe Ruth at Fake New Yankee Stadium.  Mets Police featured this guest article from the Ruth family back in April.

So now I have said nice things about the Yankees and Phillies and it's not even 9am.  I'm sure I will be popular today.

Watch ALCS Game 3 At New Yankee Stadium

If you like being cold, and don't have a 9 to 5 job, head on up to the Bronx tomorrow.

The New York Yankees announced today that they will open the Stadium Field Level and Great Hall to the public to watch the broadcast of the American League Championship Series (ALCS) Game 3 from Anaheim on Monday, October 19. The decision to open the Stadium was made after consultation with Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz, Jr.
Turnstiles between Gates 4 and 6 will open at 3:30 p.m. for the 4:13 p.m. Game. Fans can watch the Game in the Great Hall or in the opened sections of the Field Level.

"We wanted to provide a place for our fans to come together to cheer for our team even if the game itself is taking place across the country," said Hal Steinbrenner, Yankees Managing General Partner. "This is a way of saying thank you for their continued support."

"I thank the New York Yankees for opening their amazing new Stadium to the community, and I hope that people from all over the city will come out to cheer for the Yankees and share in what's sure to be a great night right here in The Bronx," said Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr.

Food and concession stands will be open and available to fans. NYY Steak and Hard Rock Cafe will also be open.

Lets Head Way Way Way Up To The Auxiliary Press Box At Yankee Stadium

I don't know if you noticed or cared but the Yankees placed the auxiliary press box in right field.

Here's a video from approximately where some of the press is sitting..here's section 406.

Picture Of Yankee Stadium Cafe Seating

As I said on Sunday, I'm not going to ignore the Yankees and write generic columns about Joel Youngblood.   (That's what December is for).    We have our Yankee friend "Mr. Sunshine" (the Yankees can never do wrong) on assignment tonight and here's what he has sent back.

This is the "Cafe Seating" the NYY's added...."Cafe" is Latin for stick a plank where the standing room was.

That being said, it's not awful.  There doesn't seem to be any plexiglass and you can see the left fielder.

These are the flags blowing out to right.  He also tells me he is cold.  And Mrs. Sunshine's hat blew away.  I'm on a leather couch drinking a beer, snuggling with a blanket and popped a Sam Adams.  Who's laughing now?  Oh and the game is in HD.

David Wells Gets It

From the Post:

“The Yankees lose some advantage because that ball flies out for everybody,” Wells said. “It’s a new park and the road teams are just as comfortable as the Yankees are. It used to be a death valley out there in center, now it’s a joke.”

One long fly ball against CC and the best of 5 could be scary.

More here.

$75 To Stand At New York Yankees Playoff Games?

So in light of the Cowboys' tremendous success in getting people to pay to not watch a game, the New Stadium Insider is reporting that the Yankees will sell standing room playoff seats for $75.

You may recall there was talk of standing room being available at both Citi and New Fake Yankee at the start of the year but that never materialized.

New Stadium Insider is now the Brett Favre of blogs..earlier this week Ross announced he was stopping the site, then went on to post several solid articles in the days immediately after announcing he was moving to Twitter.  We love you NSI, don't give up the blog.

Anyway - it's a great site (was?) and the new article is solid...go read it and learn about Yankee standing room.

Great Collection Of Yankee Stadium Deconstruction Shots plus tickets stuff

Sliding Into Home has an awesome collection of Yankee Stadium (1975 version) photos.  Check it out.

Speaking of the Yankees...playoff tickets are going on Stubhub already.  Been talking to Mr. Sunshine the Yankees fan and we think the move is to grab them.

If you wanna make some cash you may want to register for Phillies playoff tickets.  I made good cash off my 15 game Philly plan, which is making up for the beating I'm taking on the Mets.

Bags Allowed In Yankee Stadium!

Oh my....head on over to the New Stadium Insider for some shocking Yankees news!

You can now bring a small bag into Yankee Stadium!!!

Yeah, I know right?   The Yankees have finally realized that maybe some fans come straight from work to a Yankees game.   Some fans even have something called "children" with them.

Of course the Yankees have still banned briefcases (a device potentially used by James Bond villains), and large backpacks...so forget about bringing your laptop...but this is a major departure.

First the Yankees allow suntan lotion and now bags.  What's next, bazooka guns?

I keep waiting for someone in the Bronx to hear about the shoebomber.  We should all have to take our shoes off and walk through metal detectors to enter Fake Yankee Stadium to ensure our safety at Yankees games.

I don't know if I can attend any more Yankee games if they are going to let people bring bags in.  I hope they don't rescind their "take off your hat" policy (really, they make you lift your baseball cap) - people might start sneaking bombs in under their Yankee caps.

The future of old Yankee Stadium: newyorker.com

A tip of the Red Stars & Stripes Yankees hat to New Stadium Insider for tweeting about this story:  The future of old Yankee Stadium: newyorker.com which illustrates the failed effort to save at least some of old Yankee Stadium for the new park design.

At the new place the Yankees might as well wear these hats.  Three home runs were written while I typed that sentence.
