Mets Police has been hitting the pipe. Suzuki hasn't even gotten to 2,000 hits. Feeling okay??? If you were being a wise a-- or trying to be funny - it didn't work.
Anyway, Suzuki is an amazing player, averaging over 200 hits per year in the majors (rookie in '01), 100 runs per, good on base % etc. And he started here at age 27. He is 34 now, if he gets to 3,000 hits it will be a ridiculous achievement. For a precedent on his age we look to..............
Warren Spahn - won 363 games, didn't win his first until age 25. I don't see Suzuki playing into his 40's like Spahnie though. Speed is Suzuki's game and the legs tend to go on you at some point. He has been remarkably free of injury to date. As the age goes up the chances of the hammy dinging you for 25 games grows exponentially, just ask Mets Police - he has the hammies of a young John Milner, tight as a drum.
Funny Spahn story - Spahn played half a season for the '65 Mets. Yogi was a coach that year and Casey convinced him to play for a bit (9 ab's). So they ask Yogi if the battery of him and Spahn is the 'oldest' in history. Yogi says he doesnt know if they are the oldest but they certainly are the ugliest. Friggin Yogi - an American legend. Go look at his numbers if you are bored. Guy had MVP votes in 15 consecutive seasons - 3 MVP's too. Guy is actually underrated. The cartoon character overshadowed the tremendous player he was.
Thoughts:
Anyone seen pics/drawings etc of the new Yankee Stadium? Yeah, I don't think we will be seeing quite as many upper deck homers. Thing is pushed back a good bit. Now it will be an achievement. By the way, I went to the HR Derby a few weeks back. Guys were putting balls into the LF upper deck. Now that's a big deal. I would bet in the 85 years of the stadium there have been less than 15 homers put up there. Someone look this up.
Mets - lose to Marlins, 2 of 3. Marlins are ANNOYING, which means they are pesky and hard to put away. They make 2-3 awful mental errors per night and strikeout about 9 times a game but somehow they have 1 less win than the Mets. Will them getting a new stadium make any difference down there?? Do people down there even care?? I mean in Pensacola are they talking Marlins??
Trades - Yankees are agressive man. The only major leaguer they've given up is Farnsworth and 98% of Yankee fans hate him and wanted him gone. Good move on Pudge. Guy is on a salary drive for 2009. Wow, he looks so skinny and he has no power anymore. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
Anyway, will be an internet checking day tomorrow at work for any and all waiver free trades in MLB. Mets could use a bat. I predict Manny goes nowhere.
Have a good night and remember, black Mets garb sux.......
