Mets Police - we need to get past this 'announced' crowd versus 'fannies in the seats'. This compliant is reaching the 'I still haven't found what I'm looking for' summer of 1987 played out level.
Until newspapers start announcing 'no shows' in the paper each day and shaming every MLB team (because it isn't just the Mets that announce paid - EVERYONE DOES - there is nothing to do with this complaint. You gave a list of reasons why people should have shown up - here are some reasons why you saw lots of patrons dressed like empty seats.
a giveaway (Wagner bobblehead)
- the giveaway was for first 25,000 people. If you had traffic or park in Corona and walked up at game time you got no bobblehead - and there are people who only go there for the bobble. Osh41 and family got to the stadium late (got no bobblehead for kids) - and saw people leaving the park with bobblehead boxes in tow- check ebay tonight for Wagner bobbleheads by the way. Also - it's for Billy Wagner - we all hate Wagner - why would you want a sellout for the Virginia version of Armando Benitez. And if you go to a game just for the giveaway - please email me - I have a garage full of Mets garbage I would love to sell you.
a big division game against the Marlins
- THE MARLINS?? This is not the '85 Cardinals or '69,'84 Cubs. Name 5 guys on the Marlins - now. The Marlins do not put fannies in the seats anywhere they play so they aren't exactly the litmus test for pennant race attendance.
a game that's part of the 7-pack that gets you the final game at Shea
- Mets got all our money ahead of time and are making money on the float - the seats would go empty for these games so even if people don't show they still make $$$. This is why Citi Field has 13,000 fewer seats than Shea - walk up, spur of the moment impulse attendance cannot be consistently counted on - so they are trying their darndest to pre-sell everything.
a Mr. Mets Dash (cancelled after they heard one thunderclap. I can't kill them for the decision - they don't need a kid killed by lightning. -
- THE WEATHER - I checked weather.com today before I left and saw Flushing was looking at thunderstorms all afternoon - that the game was even concluded without a delay was amazing - i would say that that had a HUGE impact on today. Weather alone account for 3,000-4,000 people staying home.
in conclusion - enough already. Baseball is a business - they sell 54,000 seats and 40,000 people show - what number looks better?? Do you think it's a smart decision and better for the short and long term viability of the product you are selling to go with 40k?
Isn't it better for the business to use 'Bill Clinton logic' and go with the half truth? The Mets and Yankees and many other teams are doing an excellent job of creating the impression that tickets for their product are scarce and should be bought ahead of time. This is the way it is. Baseball is a business - it always has been - but the people running it have gotten better at it and we have gotten older and see it for what it is - a money grab. get used to it or pick another sport - oh wait its too late for football, basketball and every other major sport. So get used to it.
Just work with me on getting rid of the black - we can agree on that one!
