Phillies fans have co-opted the rallying cry of the 1973 Mets - YOU GOTTA BELIEVE.
I guess since Tug Mcgraw also played for the Philles they think have rights to the slogan. Maybe Tug should have copyrighted the phrase like Pat Riley did with 'Threepeat' back when he was coach in LA.
Anyway.........
I say the Mets bring back Alou, sign Jamie Moyer and a few old guys and steal the 1983 Phillies slogan ' The Wheez Kids'. That'll teach em.
Lets just hope that when the series starts Joe Buck will call them on it the first time a lame banner is unfurled - EXPOSED. But then again McCarver hates the Mets so he may try to convince a national audience that the 73 Mets never existed.
At least the 73 Mets and 83 Phillies won a pennant - but they did lose the World Series. So go ahead Philly, take 'You gotta believe' - but remember - the Mets lost in 7 games and the next day the papers read 'You gotta bereave!'
Buyer beware.
