One of the most common complaints about Citi Field so far is a minor one, but fun for a slow day.
Security wears the same red as the Phillies.
I don't know the psychology of having security wear red (doesn't red bring out anger in people?) but I really don't get why Philles red.
So I was standing by "Right Field Gate" (this new nomenclature is weird) on Friday and the color bothered me...so I asked the guy, "Why Phillies red?"
He said, quite frustrated, that he had been hearing a lot of that.
Later on by the gift shop I heard another fan giving that guard a hard time. That guard too was sick of it.
I ran into a really nice cool "head security" guy so I asked him. His explanation...(paraphrasing)
"All you guys wear blue and orange so we needed to stand out."
That actually made and makes sense to me, so I smiled, accepted his reasoning and shook his hand. I still think they could have picked lime green or something but at least there was a reason.
After attending one game I'm finding the security at both stadiums very friendly. The Citi ushers were much nicer than they ever were at Shea (where their hand was in a permanent "tip" position). The Yankee ushers are not so pleasant.
