Remeber Met Fans, It's a Long Season.
by Vegas Rich
Funny thing about Mets fans. Every game is scrutinized like it's the 7th game of the World Series. Mike Pelfrey gives up 4 runs on 48 pitches in the first inning and then fans are already sending him back Triple A. Ollie Perez strikes out the side in the second inning and four of the first six batters and every fan is saying Derek who? Then he makes one bad to pitch to perhaps an eventual triple crown contender and the fans have strung him up and applying pressure to the rope.
Relax everyone. The season has 162 games and we've only played three, on the road, in an environment where our history is not stellar and we still managed to win the series and our bullpen which has everybody concerned has performed gallantly.
Give this team at least 40 games, about 1/4 of the season before you start breaking it up. This team has the makeup and desire to play at a high level throughout the season. They are not going to win every game and play great defense, hit everything out of the park and completely shut the other team down. They just want to win the series. Win the first game of each one and there will be few teams that will be able to keep up.
Remember there is not a team in the National League that has as many quality players on their 25 man roster. They have a tremendous team in Buffalo ready to contribute this year and in Binghamton they have some of the most promising prospects in the game. Take it easy Met Fans, this is our year. Don't wear yourselves out. It's all good.
