Mailbag: Shea Markers, Uniforms, Yankee Food

Some quick mailbag action:

Remember Alex, the reader who suggested that the Shea makers are misplaced...

Alex here. I have since seen photographic proof that the distances seem to be close enough:

I still like the discussion, I'm still not sure if we have proven anything one way or another, and it's not that big of a deal I guess - but they are either exactly right or totally wrong.  Close equals wrong.

Meanwhile, Las Vegas Rusty warns Mets fans heading to Yankee stadium to bring their own BBQ sauce:

So I was at Yankee Stadium yesterday for my 2nd time of the year (as a Mets fan, rooting for the Rays, of course). I ordered chicken fingers, and asked if they had BBQ sauce (the girl said yes) and asked if they had honey mustard (the girl said no). My chicken fingers come out, and I ask for the BBQ sauce, and she tells me it's by the condiment stand. (I went to a game in mid-April, and this same thing happened, but there was no BBQ sauce). I thought to myself "OK, I guess they finally woke up and got some BBQ sauce after people complained". I go to the condiment stand, and there was only ketchup and mustard. I go back to inquire, and the girl asks her manager, and she tells me "sorry, we don't carry BBQ sauce". Weak. Back to Citi FieldI go!

i've been a fan since around 1967 and i STILL like the classic look of the old unis.

i also managed to vote in the survey.

i HATE the black jerseys and the all black hats.

UNlike a lot of you however, i don't mind the black drop shadows on the current jerseys and i kinda LIKE the the blue/black caps (as an alternate)

the 'concept' unis in the survey were mostly small variations of the current sets, but that one page with the 'way out' concepts looked more likeintramural softball unis rather than professional baseball unis.

while i'm happy that they conducted the survey, two questions remain.
1- will they publish the results?
2- WILL they actually listen to the fans or just do whatever they want anyway???


I rip the Mets as much as any fan, I give them lots of credit for doing the survey, and I do think they will publish the results.

show that the parking lot markers are about 15 feet too close to Sitty Field (left out a letter to stay family friendly). You could argue that unless both pics were taken from the exact same location, the overlay proves nothing. Having done a lot of photo composition work, it's my opinion that the roadways common to both pics line up almost perfectly and the perspective matches. It's called "geometry" for you kids that didn't pay attention in high school. If the dimensions and angles are congruent then the fidelity of everything else is accurate.

There's more proof yet to come, we just haven't seen it yet. Overhead views of Shea are available and their accuracy is good to probably a foot. All we need to do is wait for similar cartographic-quality overheads of the markers in the parking lot and the proof one way or another will be hard to refute.

As it stands, I felt the markers seemed about 10 to 20 feet away from where they should be, and that overlay photo supports my theory so far. If that does indeed turn out to be the case then the Mets should be ashamed of themselves for a sloppy job. Not that that's ever stopped them before.
