New York Mets Owner Jeff Wilpon Apologizes For Team

"Omar's our general manager. He's going to be our general manager."

Jeff Wilpon spoke to the press tonight before the game. He added that Omar Minaya feels very bad about the incident and is asking to talk to Adam Rubin on the phone to apologize.

Omar doesn't seem to be around tonight, and Jeff added that he was "visibly shaken" yesterday.

The man lost his cool. He apologized. The apology wasn't enough for some of you.

I don't think Adam Rubin has been long term damaged. He probably had a stressful 36 hours, and wasn't doing his usual blogging today - but he'll be OK it seems.

As much as I like to complain about the Mets, I'm ready to focus on the field (or at least go back to complaining about uniforms).

The organization got rid of Tony Bernazard. The owner apologized to Adam Rubin.

What else do you want from everyone?

The Mets Police blog is all about this franchise having respect. Today was a good day. Without a time machine we have to let yesterday go and accept that they know it was wrong.

Jeff Wilpon also made no bones about the incident damaging the organization and his family, and described it "a very large mistake." Meanwhile, Minaya apparently spent the day in time-out where he couldn't stick his foot any farther into his mouth.

Wilpon's statement about Minaya being the general manager and continuing to be the general manager sounded like the obligatory vote of confidence you hear from a college athletic director two weeks before the football coach is let go. Ownership obviously wants to put this whole thing to bed, and they're not going to do anything soon, but I will not be surprised if Minaya's let go after the season. He'd best think before he speaks from here on out and pray this team somehow makes the playoffs.
