5 questions for an average New York Mets fan

SS

I invite you to take part in my unofficial survey of regular fans. I
will post one fan response per day. Maybe we can change the world.
Please keep a positive tone and use nice language.

1. When did you start following the Mets?

2. What is your favorite Mets memory?

3. What is your worst Mets memory or experience?

4. If you could change one off-field thing about the franchise what
would it be?

5. If you owned the team starting tomorrow, what is the first thing
you would change?

Play nice. Responses to Shannon@metspolice.com

1) 1971
2) Not '86, actually. It was '85, on the last day of the season, when the players threw their caps into the stands. 85 was incredible fun-- and interesting in retrospect because they did not win the division, but it was still a love fest. Not like now.
3)Minaya. Or get him a brain transplant.
5)Minaya.

1. I started hardcore following the Mets probably around 1997

2. Favorite memory... My Dad coming up to drag me out of bed to watch the 15 inning Game 5 in 1999 and really believing for the first time that anything can happen.

3. Worst memory, last day of 2007 season, we'll keep it at that.

4.Off-field, I would erase the Bernie Madoff mess.

5. If I were the owner, I'd retire a handful of numbers, including Keith Hernandez, and possibly Mike Piazza's.

1. Last week of 1985 season. I was about 13 and had never had an interest in sports but something clicked. No idea why still. I’ll have to rewatch that Cardinals series someday. I’m betting it was Strawberry.
2. So many good ones from 99-2000 and of course the 80’s. Game 5 of the 2000 NLCS was like the most fun though. It was just a relaxing hang out blowout with the world series so close. Great party.
3. The last game at Shea was pretty miserable, so was the Castillo game this season, I was there. I’ll go with clanging a ball I threw to Keith Hernandez off the press box façade at Shea. I was mortified.
4. The way the franchise interacts with its fans. It’s hard enough to root for billionaires and millionaires. It would be nice to see some compassion for the fans from time to time. Also, some class.
5. I’d bring back Bobby, I don’t think Manual is awful, but I think Bobby may be the best manager they ever had, with respect to Davey and Gil

5 - Fire Minaya and Manual - stop signing Free Agents who don't pan out, build this team from the ground up

1. Been a Mets fan my whole life, got extremely dedicated in '08.
2. I wasn't alive for '86, so...Endy's catch.
3. Eric Bruntlett's unassisted triple play still leaves a terrible taste in my mouth whenever I think about it.
4. Retire Keith's and Piazza's jerseys.
5. My security detail.
