Enough with the Sheffield (New York Mets)

Enough.

Last night as I switched between Idol and SNY (like you don't) I saw
Gary Sheffield holding a bat. All I could think was what a wasted at
bat it would be.

There's talk of Murphy playing first if Delgado goes DL and Jerry says
the Mets can get a look at Sheffield.

Why? He's old and slow and the Mets play in a triples park with 600
foot fences that are 30 feet high.

Did Ryan Church scratch Jerry's car? Steal his girlfriend?

Let's take more looks at Reed. Maybe he's good and can be part of
core-two with Murphy, Pelfrey, Santos and Niese.

Tatis deserves some at bats too based upon 2008.

Sheffield? No thanks. He wastes a roster spot. There's no future
there, no need to take a look.

Why Did The Tigers Release Sheffield?

Gary Sheffield is hardly the player he used to be. He is 39 and in spring training he was hitting under .200 On the flip side he did hit 5 homeruns this spring and the Tigers arepaying him $14 million a year.

That's $14 million guaranteed.

You don't drop a player earning that much unless you know something.

So what do the Tigers know?

Well, what do we know about Sheffield. We know he admitted to using the steroid laden "Cream" from Barry Bonds' trainer in 2001. Sheffield has stated that he stopped using it when he found out what was in it and never went back to the stuff.

What do the Tigers know?

I have nothing to base this on other than pure speculation, but maybe Sheffield' name is on that 2003 list of players who tested positive for steroids. If it is, that's 2 years AFTER he said he had stopped taking it.

What do the Tigers know?

SI Reports Mets To Sign Sheffield

Anonymous

SI.com is reporting that Sheffield has agreed to sign with the Mets - an announcement is expected this afternoon.

Shannon and I disagree a bit on this.

Do I love it? Not really- Sheffield could be trouble. But frankly, for $400,000 signing him is a no-brainer. The Mets needed a right handed power bat.

The great thing is, at $400K if he doesn't work, they just drop him - no harm no foul.
