Worst Mets Citi Field Obstructed View Ever (Video!)

Oh my goodness.

I don't even know what to say.   Mel sent this in and well.....wow.

Keep in mind this "view" is without anyone on the staircase.

David Howard, explain yourself.

Mel adds:

This is horrible. Avoid sitting in the first 3 rows along seats 1 through 6 in every section of the promenade. How can Dave Howard say there are no obstructions at Citifield??? What do you call this? A standing room only ticket would be worth more than this. At least you can see the action on the field. Shea Stadium did not have anything as bad as this.

Obstructed Views Mets Citi Field Promenade 538

Another submission to pictures@metspolice.com where we welcome photos of obstructed views.

As obstructed views go, this one isn't too bad.  That being said, when you go to a Broadway show you rarely complain about obstructed views, and this didn't come up at Shea.   Did we lose technology or get greedy?

These are from Promenade 538

Obstructed View Mets Citi Field Promenade 527

From the mailbag:

Hi... good job on your site. Keep up the good work.
Citi-field is a very nice ball park.  I've been there twice already and will be there 3 more times before the end of May. If you cant see the entire field of play, I don't think its the end of the world. The most important thing is being able to see the infield along with the  pitcher and the batter. Unfortunately this is not the case up in the promenade. I had to send this video in to you guys from the game on April 17. My seat was in section 527, row 3 seat 3.

It seems that every section in the promenade along the left and right field lines has obstructed views from the plexi-glass and handrails (not to mention all the people going up and down the stairs). The obstruction is about from seat 1 through 6 in rows 1 through 4. That's (6x4)= 24 seats in every section along the lines in the promenade. The Mets didn't do a good job on this. This was annoying. I rather stand all 9 innings than sit here. I noticed that behind home plate, there are several tunnel entrances to the promenade just like Shea had. The whole promenade should have been designed this way. I've been to approximately 200 games at Shea stadium the past 22 years and sat just about all over the place. Shea never had crappy seats like this. Sorry. Check out this video I have posted on YouTube.

I of course stand by the official position of the Mets and that there are no obstructed views.

The way we characterize “obstructed” is if you have an obstruction, something in front of you — a beam, a pillar, something that’s blocking your view. That’s not the case here. It is a function of the geometry of the building.

If you have any more of these clearly CGI'd videos or pictures send them to pictures@metspolice.com

Obstructed Views In Mets Citi Field Section 521

I guess nobody likes seeing the batter, pitcher or first base.  I'd hate to be the person in the hat, I bet he can't see at all.

The person who sent me this wrote:

lots of things i like about the park. i like the pepsi porch, the bridge terrace seating,

right field reserved area the best i think.

the standing room around the lower level is neat. lots of cool merch for sale all over the park. we had blue smoke and it was very good. cheaper beer, and a nice beer stand with an excellent selection of bottled beers. promenade area in back of home plate has a nice food court with tables and shopping......but u cant see the game

Please send any shots of obstructed views (Citi Field or Yankee Stadium) to pictures@metspolice.com

Views From Mets Citi Field Section 516

We welcome your pictures of obstructed views at pictures@metspolice.com

We got this email....I believe this is section 516.

Friday...was sitting right in the path of a handrail, as well as every person who came up our steps. I'm 5-8, and I could only see the field if I leaned forward so that my head was over the handrail (not as much of a problem if you're 6 feet, but still). I tolerated it, but wouldn't recommend.

As I do like to be fair, the vendor/civilians-on-stairs problem also existed at Shea.

Mailbag: Obstructed Views At Yankee Stadium and Citi Field

Some good comments have been coming in...

I got an actual email...not a posted comment,...thought it was a great point:

We know that the old stadiums had some obstructed views. But there's something about the obstructed views at the new stadiums, particularly at yankee stadium, that just feels wrong. In the case of the yankees its 35 years later. For the mets 45 years. The overall amount of obsctructed view seats have decreased not increased. Also the obstructions in the old stadiums seemed like they were limitations of the architectutal design. The ones in the new stadiums seem diliberate.

Another thing that deosnt seem right is having the mohegan sun name, which is a casino, at yankee stadium. Should they invite pete rose and give him an honorary membership?

They can move people around all the want, but SOMEBODY is going to eventually wind up sitting in these obstructed view seats. And for a fairly high ticket price too.
and...
As a season ticket holder for many years who had great mezzanine box seats on the 3rd base line at Shea I called the Mets and was told that anything better than our seats in Promenade Section 425 (where we can't see the left hand corner of the field) were going to cost us more money. I also found out that we are not entitled to eat in that 350 seat restaurant Drew Nierpont is running. It's only for the ticket holders of the "better" seats. As far as I'm concerned, this whole situation stinks. Citifield is a stadium built by the rich for the rich!
