Willie Watch

Off to Los Angeles and the dreaded 10pm starts. Remember back before the internet when two weeks would go by and you'd have no idea what the team was doing because the Daily News only had "Mets at Los Angeles, night."

Meanwhile, the New York Sun continues it's quest to get Willie fired. Can't say I disagree...for a team that's a half-game ot of first I really have little confidence. I guess September 2007 will do that to a person.

Here's our new favorite writer Tim Marchman in today's Sun (which again has as many readers, three, as this blog.)

The question that needs to be asked about Willie Randolph, then, is whether he's likely to manage well or not. There are some good reasons why he should keep his job, not least that the Mets have won more than they've lost and are just a half game out of first place. The point those of us who think he should be fired are making, though, isn't that he's so awful that he should be turned into a burnt offering to appease the angry baseball gods, but that under his leadership the Mets are likely to keep muddling along, not doing too badly but not doing especially well, either. The team is capable of something more.

The Willie Watch will be done by June if the Mets aren't in first place by June 1.

Great blog. Adding you to the Mets Lifer blogroll. Keep it up.

Thanks! It's all done with love, but I think the sub-optimizing gets to all of us after a while, and much like 1989 there's a lot of talent not doing anything.

The off-field stuff gets to me more than the on-field.
