The Japanese Greg Maddux and other Mets mistakes

From time to time on this site you'll see me drop the line "The Japanese so-and-so", often "the Japanese Greg Maddux" or just last week "the Japanese J.J. Putz."

The Mets have this wonderfully horrible history of signing overrated players from Japan and trying to sell them to the citizens of Flushing as equivalent players.

You will thoroughly enjoy this article in the Times.   Shinjo, ugh.

The Mets have had nine players from Japan, more than any other team in the majors, but they have never come away with a player who made a big difference.
