2010 Schedule, opening day

The Mets announced their tentative 2010 schedule today. According to WFAN.com the Mets "will open their 2010 season at Citi Field Monday, April 5 when they host the Florida Marlins at 1:10 p.m"

Wait a second.

I thought the first game of the season was supposed to be a night game? Can somebody please explain to me this concept of having Opening Day.....during the DAY?

Interestingly, at mets.com they make no mention of the starting time for the first game next year.

April 5th? That's awful!

The 5th and 6th are the 7th and 8th days of Passover, which means that no observant Jews can make it to opening day in 2010, as the 7th and 8th days are festival days. If they were opening on the road, there would be no issue.

Moreover, they seem to have done away with the practice of having a day game for the second game of the season -- which would be after Passover is over, allowing those of us who observe Jewish holidays to attend.

And here I'd been hoping to be able to take my older son out of school early to take him to opening day. I guess I'll have to wait until that game against the Dodgers on the 28th for a special father-son day...

This blog aims to be a little different. We're less likely to complain about a pitching change than we are likely to complain about what the pitcher was wearing.

We're about Mets history and tradition. We'd like to see a Seaver statue at Citi Field. We'd like the black uniforms to go away. We'd like the team to always treat the fans with respect.

We're just regular old Mets fans like you who have migrated from the uppers to the Promenade where we were saddened when we found plexiglass. Finally, for all our complaining we just want the franchise to win the World Series (while nicely dressed).

The site is updated several times a day, usually morning, noon, and night (cliche but true) with other items as they come in.
