New York Mets Screwed Fans: So We Didn't Show Up (Last Night's Crowd)

Hey "Saturday Plan" owners...did you use your tickets last night or did you sell them for 95 cents?

David Howard, I hope you enjoyed your "gate" last night. The boxscore tells me the crowd was 37,620 or another way to spin it is 89.6% full.

Those extra "Saturday" games you jammed the plan with will be enough to get folks like me to buy NO Saturday games next year. I can always jump on Stubhub and get some for a buck, right?

For those of you with Saturday plans - Saturday the 19th is not part of the package (not part of mine anyway), but Wednesday the 23rd is. Seats are going for $1.50 on Stubhub if anyone wants to join us.

Thanks Mets. Remember to be fan friendly because you want us safe because you want us back.

I didn't want to eat another ticket, albeit it was only a $11 one, Thursday was "Saturday" (what a con by the Mets), needed a change of pace after work, so when the weather held up, my ticket partner and I went. We had to "comfort" ourselves with the reality that we bought these tickets ten months ago, and there was no way of knowing that the 2009 Mets season was canceled by conditions beyond any fan's most morbid fantasy. I think about 50% of those who showed up were Mets fans---5,000 or so? The rest were tourists---US Open fans, some Marlins fans. There were the usual underclass, baseball-starved Yankee fans in full regalia, who I guess don't earn a Trumpian salary to be able to buy seats at their new concentration camp. We stayed until Pagan made his 4,876th mental error at the bottom of the 7th.
It was the most Shea-like night ever at Wilpon's Folly. Dark, dank, empty, silent, lineless, pointless---like the games I sat through after the Seaver trade or during the dying days of Bobby Valentine.
No moral to this tale, except that perhaps I'm more masochistic than I previously believed...

can't wait till I get my invoice for next year's tix, and inevitably the phone call from someone to discuss my non-renewal.

If you are visiting The Mets Police for the first time, welcome.

This blog aims to be a little different. We're less likely to complain about a pitching change than we are likely to complain about what the pitcher was wearing.

We're about Mets history and tradition. We'd like to see a Seaver statue at Citi Field. We'd like the black uniforms to go away. We'd like the team to always treat the fans with respect.

We're just regular old Mets fans like you who have migrated from the uppers to the Promenade where we were saddened when we found plexiglass. Finally, for all our complaining we just want the franchise to win the World Series (while nicely dressed).

The site is updated several times a day, usually morning, noon, and night (cliche but true) with other items as they come in.
