I propose to you that there is no point in letting Jerry Manuel finish the season as manager.
Never mind the injuries, I think September has been a disaster. I see a team that goes out, loses, and then the manager tells me that the team battled. An article in the Times compares it to the last days of Art Howe (if I knew how to re-caption those Hitler "Downfall" videos that are all over Youtube I would make one.

Ownership needs to make a gesture, even a small relatively meaningless one, now. Change managers. Let it be known that 5-13 in September is unacceptable in any year, even if I'm pitching and you're the starting shortstop.
I would like to see Howard Johnson manage the team the rest of the way.
Do I think Hojo is destined to be a great manager? No.
Do I want Hojo to manage the team in 2010? Probably not, unless he surprises me with an amazing finish and new attitude in the clubhouse.
Hojo would change the story, and that's what the team needs right now. Let one of the '86 heroes guide the club, even if it's only for two weeks. Give the faithful something to root for.
The more I think about it, the more I can't imagine the Mets bringing back Omar, Jerry and "the core." These last six weeks have been about more than injuries. Every aspect of the franchise is failing, from front office to fan relations to on-field performance.
Change the stink. Change the story. Let Hojo run a lineup out there for two weeks. What's the worst that happens, the team loses 10 of 11?
