Blue Cap Army Update

To catch everyone up, I have this idea of a Blue Cap Army.  In a nutshell, I think we should encourage a sea of blue at Citi Field...read the original post to learn more.

I floated the idea that the first meeting of the Army should be at Opening Day, and that we should meet in front (we can pretend there's a Seaver statue) and then all visit the new museum together.

I got good traction on it, so I think I'm going to go ahead and organize something.  I'll wait until the site migrates to the new hosting because that will make it easier for me to start a sign-up list...so this is the announcement that I'm going to announce something.  I'm ego-less so if it's me and two guys, that's cool.  If it's 45,000 that would be awesome but I'm not delusional.

Speaking of Blue Caps, I don't know how much this means in the scheme of things, but Corey shared with me that the top selling Mets cap (non-discounted) on Lids is.....the traditional blue cap!

If you don't already own a blue Mets cap please buy one and plan to join us for opening day.  More to come.    10 bucks cash if someone can get Lee Mazzilli to meet us.  Lee, if you're reading this...ten bucks if you show!

Idea for Mets: Saturday Seven Ticket Packs

Good morning, should be an active day in Flushing as we wait for Jason Bay to tell us how much he wants to be here.   In the meantime, as always I'm here to help the Mets, today I bring another wacky idea for consideration.  I floated this one on twitter last week (@metspolice)

Mets, I suspect you are disappointed in the advance sales, and you've lost lots of folks from the 15 game pack.  Today is a day when people will be excited about your team and you will have the media's attention.  Hopefully one of the first things you do when you get to the office is read Mets Police, so I'm posting this one at the crack of dawn to help you.  Someone should figure out between now and 11 how to do this.

Here's my suggestion...I'm trying to be realistic based upon that it's easier to sell mid-summer games, and that Craig Marino said discounts don't make sense.

I propose the Mets announce the following.   Saturday Seven Packs.   Sell the seats in Promenade Left and make it a "thing" - make that area where the diehards sit, even if we're cheap.

Package the following:

April 10th vs Washington
May 8th vs SF
June 5th vs Florida
July 10th vs Atlanta
August 28th vs Arizona
September 18th vs Atlanta
October 2nd vs Washington

One game a month.   Keep the fans coming out.   Honestly I can't be bothered to compute the ticket prices because I'll have to look up all seven games instead of just multiplying 7 by $15.   Let's say it's about a $100-150ish package.

7 Saturdays, one hundred(ish) bucks.

However, we're not dopes...why should we lock in our money without something extra?  Here's why.  Throw in a t-shirt, a cap, whatever is inexpensive for you to make.  If it has a corporate sponsor logo on the premium, fine whatever I get it.

Heck you might want to even steal the Blue Cap Army idea....take it, it's yours.

Blue Cap Army Seven Pack.   7 Saturday games and a blue Mets cap (with a corporate sponsor on the side).  $100-150ish.

Promenade Left.  Hang a Blue Cap Army sign to designate the section.  Make it a "thing."  Engage the fans.   Start a tradition.

Have Mr. Met join us for the top of the first...we could start our own version of roll-call, but in our version we'll leave out the left fielder because we can't see him (sorry Jason).  Quirky but fun for fun's sake.   Sure theYankee fans will say we stole it but we stole Casey and pinstripes too so who cares.

Maybe your sponsor is Pepsi and they put blue caps on the bottles.  (Then I make fun of you when the vendors keep the cap, but we'll do that later on, right now let;'s just get 7 plans).  Maybe if I show up on a Tuesday with 10 bottlecaps I get in for free or for fuve bucks or whatever...like the old Shea picnic area when Dallas Green was the manager and an empty can of soda got me in for free.

Seven game packs make a ton of sense to me, but I'm just a dopey blogger.  Let's ask some fans...would y'all buy this?

The controversial Blue Cap Army

You know what's fascinating about blogging?   Of all the crazy things I throw out there, the one that is getting the biggest discussion is the Blue Cap Army.   Some get it, some are making me out to be M. Donald Grant.  Either way I don't care, as long as we're all passionaltely talking about our team.

The idea:  regular readers can skip this paragraph.   I sense you are frustrated.  I created the Blue Cap Army to help us all focus that frustration.  I don't want to start a fan boycott or walkout.  Those don't work.  The idea is simple.  When you attend a game, wear a blue Mets cap.

Critique #1:  everyone already wears a blue cap to Mets games.

On the left is a Cardinals game.  What color do you see?

Now, here's some fans getting a shake.  Does any color stand out?

How about this shot from Shea? Looks like the 7th inning stretch, maybe it's during the anthem and people are holding their caps.  I don't see much blue.

Critique #2.  I'm just going to take credit for something people are already doing.  Nope.   I am going to take credit when Dave Howard is honest about the plexiglass, but not that people are wearing blue.

Critique #3.  How does buying a Mets cap hurt the Mets?  I don't want to hurt the Mets.  Hopefully you already own a blue cap.  If you don't, consider buying one.  My blog is here to create change for the good, not to hurt something I love.

Critique #4.   I just hate the black uniforms and am using this to aid my cause.   It would aidmy cause, I do not deny it.   I'm just trying to take the anti-black mood and tried to focus all fan frustration at it.

Critique #5.  Do you really think the Mets will care?  Nope.  Not at all.  However, to all this I ask you - what's the harm?  Join the Blue Cap Army and be part of the community.

In the end, it's just an idea.  I'm going to wear mine.  If I'm the only one there in a blue cap, so be it.

Blue Cap Army Grows To 2 People!

Jason from Home Run Apple dropped a note to let me know he updated the look of his site (something I hope to do over here during the Christmas break) and I was pleased to discover he has joined the Blue Cap Army, which is my call for all Mets fans to don blue (not black) Mets caps at games as a form of silent frustration with our lack of championships.   My desire is to express such frustration without causing financial harm to the organization.  So wear the cap you already own or buy a new one.

Look at any picture of a Mets crowd and you'll be surprised that there's not as many blue caps as you'd think.

Here's a shot I found on Google...see many blue caps?
